Beyond the Sum: Experiences, Autonomy, and Complexity in Multiple Disabilities
I am pleased to announce a call for chapters for an interdisciplinary edited volume dedicated to the philosophical, theoretical, empirical, and institutional dimensions of multiple disabilities.
🔎 What happens when two or more disabilities coexist in the same person?
This is the central question guiding the volume. Its main hypothesis is that the coexistence of disabilities may produce a qualitatively distinct form of complexity, rather than simply a quantitative increase in limitations or support needs.
The aim is to move beyond the separate analysis of disabilities and examine how their interaction transforms lived experience, autonomy, embodiment, communication, care, participation, and the exercise of rights.
📖 The volume will be organized into three parts:
- Rethinking Multiple Disabilities
- Experiences of Multiple Disabilities
- Rights, Support, and Institutions in the Context of Multiple Disabilities
Contributions are welcome from researchers in Philosophy, Law, Psychology, Education, and Health Sciences, particularly those working on disability, phenomenology, bioethics, autonomy, interdependence, and social and institutional support.
